What is inburgering?

Civic integration helps newcomers learn Dutch and participate independently in Dutch society.
It may include learning about Dutch society, work and education.
If integration is compulsory for you, DUO will send you an official letter.

Who is it for?

Not every newcomer is required to integrate.
The requirement depends on factors such as nationality, age, residence situation and previous education.
Check the official government guidance to see whether the integration requirement may apply to you.

What are the routes?

B1 route: Dutch at B1 level combined with preparation for paid or voluntary work.
Education route: Dutch at B1 level or higher in preparation for MBO, HBO or university education.
Self-reliance route (Z-route): practical Dutch and participation for people for whom the other routes are too challenging.
